Robotik und Produktion: IKEA Industry Slovakia deploys PhoXi 3D Scanner to automate its processes
IKEA Industry, an integrated part of Inter IKEA Group, is the world’s largest wooden furniture producer. Its facility Industry Slovakia s.r.o., located in Malacky, Slovakia, decided to automate one of its processes that were performed manually before. The process involves the packing of furniture parts into boxes.
The previous manual operation was very challenging given the weight of the boards – up to 22 kg, the cycle time of 6 seconds, and placement accuracy of +-2 mm. Deploying vision-guided robots equipped with PhoXi 3D Scanners increased productivity and safety at the workplace.
A necessary requirement for the 3D vision system was high resolution and accuracy, the ability to provide reliable performance even in challenging lighting conditions, and powerful recognition of varying materials and colors of the boards.
